The pandemic drove a resurgence of purpose in life and work. My passion for inspiring educators through speaking, professional learning, and coaching took on a greater desire beyond being a principal. In Summer 2022, I founded In Focus Educational Consulting, LLC.

Why "In Focus"?

 

From a young age, I knew I wanted to be an educator. My fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Conant, inspired me. She was kind, loving, and caring. She went out of her way to help all her students. Mrs. Conant was the teacher to recognize I needed glasses. You see, I was a back row student. One of the quiet, shy, do whatever the teacher asks, type of student.

I couldn't see the board. It was blurry. As an 8-year-old, I thought everyone else was experiencing the same blurred vision. Through student conferences, Mrs. Conant realized I couldn't see very far. She immediately contacted my parents who, in turn, took me to see the optometrist.

Yes, you guessed it. I needed glasses for the first time. Suddenly, everything in my world was clear. My world was in focus for the first time. When I went to school, I could finally see what Mrs. Conant wrote on the board. It was a morning message that was delectably sweet, just like her.

Being able to focus was the catalyst that drove my potential. This experience demands I ask, "In what ways can I focus on practices that drive the potential of all students?" It is with this question I founded "In Focus Educational Consulting, LLC".
